During the Annual Meeting of AST&L held November 15 in Anaheim, CA, the 2009 L.L. Waters scholarships were awarded to Laura Rusnok and Kyle Groothuis.

 

Ms. Rusnok is a 3.6 GPA student at the University of North Texas (UNT) with a major in Aviation Logistics with an anticipated date of graduation in December, 2010. She recently qualified as a certified private pilot and works for a fixed base operator and accredited flight school in addition to carrying a 12 credit load at UNT.

 

She helped establish the new Student Aviation Association at UNT and serves as its President. In addition, she is a member of three honor societies and recipient of three other scholarships. In summary Laura excels in the classroom, demonstrates outstanding leadership abilities and is already working in her chosen career.

 

Thanks to a special personal contribution by L.L. Waters, a secondary scholarship in 2009 has been awarded to Kyle Groothuis. Kyle is a junior 3.96 GPA Transportation and Logistics major at the University of North Florida (UNF). Kyle is also a Division 1 basketball player and Atlantic Sun academic all conference award winner each year.

 

Mr. Groothuis is active in the UNF Transportation and Logistics Society and is pursuing a summer internship with a Jacksonville area transportation and logistics provider. He plans to earn a Masters degree and provide leadership to an international third-party logistics firm.

 

The awards were announced and presented by Mr. David Yeley, a member of the AST&L Board of Directors and Trustee of the L.L. Waters Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was set up in honor of L.L. Waters, University Professor Emeritus of Transportation and Business History in Indiana University’s School of Business, in recognition of his many contributions to undergraduate and graduate level education in transportation, logistics and international business during a teaching career of more than four decades.
